Task 6: The First Deployment

In this task the pipeline becomes a complete solution: a merge to main puts the new version on AWS.

Write the deploy job

  • Assume the role with aws-actions/configure-aws-credentials.
Option 1: EKS
  • A Deployment (two replicas, readiness probe on /healthz) and a Service of type LoadBalancer, in deploy/.
  • The job sets the image to the commit's tag and waits for the rollout. TODO: kubectl set image, or kustomize.
Option 2: EC2
  • TODO: the deploy command and how the job waits for it.

Write the smoke test

  • Call the load balancer's /healthz and one CRUD route; fail the job if either fails.

Merge a change, and watch it go out

  • Change a response, open a pull request, get the approval, merge.
  • The merge run deploys it; call the API and see the change.

The whole pipeline now works. The tasks that follow replace the remaining placeholders and add details.
